Four
alternatives are being studied as part of the EIS process, ranging
from “no-build” to full reconstruction.
Alternative 1: No Build
This alternative would include routine maintenance of the bridge
infrastructure to provide continued operation of the interchange
roadways. Construction of a new Route 10 northbound to a Route 6
westbound movement is not included. Repairs would be completed only
as needed to address failing structural or functional elements,
and to maintain the current load ratings. These repairs would generally
include long-term shoring of beams, concrete repairs, roadway expansion
joint replacement, and under-deck sheilding to catch falling concrete.
Repairs would not address functional and Code deficiencies, such
as the lack of seismic design requirements, superelevation(adequate
cross slope) of the roadways, or substandard widths, nor would they
address ever-increasing truck weights. Total replacement of the
interchange bridges would not be addressed, even though it would
inevitably be required.
